How to : Install Windows 8 as a Virtual
Machine

 

This tutorial will show you how to
install Windows 8 as a Virtual Machine .
Step 1 : Download the ISO image of
windows 8 from windows.microso
ft.com. It’s around 3 Gb in size .
Note : There are two versions available
in the website – 32 bit and 64 bit .
Step 2: Download the new version of
Virtual Box from oracle website . If you
are already using older version of
virtual box , then upgrade to the new
version .
Note : Only New version of virtual box
supports Windows 8 .

Step 3: Open Oracle VirtualBox and
click new button to create new
Windows 8 Virtual Machine .
Step 4 : Enter Virtual Box name as
Windows8 or any name which you
prefer and OS type . Choose “Microsoft
Windows” as Operating system and
“Windows 8” as version.
Step 5 : Select RAM ( give in MB) for
Virtual Machine .It’s better to give more
than 1024 MB for better performance .
Step 6 : Create new Virtual hard disk for
Windows 8 installation.
Step 7 : Choose “VDI” as file type .
Step 8 : Choose “Fixed size” storage as
it gives better performance than
“Dynamically allocated”.
Step 9 : Choose the location where you
want to store virtual disk file & Size of
the virtual disk in megabytes .
Step 10 : Click “Create” to create a new
virtual disk .
Step 11 : It will take some time
( approx. 10 – 20 mins ) for creation of
virtual disk .
Step 12 : After successful creation of
Windows 8 virtual disk , Go to settings
( Press Ctrl + S) .
Step 13 : Navigate to System –>
Motherboard and Enable IO APIC
option.
Step 14 : Go to Processor and Enable
“PAE/NX”.
Step 15 : Go to Display –> Video and
Enable “2D Video Acceleration”
Step 16 : That’s it done !! Get ready for
Windows 8 first run .
